Funky fare for Muslim

Funky fare for MuslimMENTION the words Islamic and fashion and most people think of big black burqas or shapeless chadors. But a fashion show of Islamic clothing in Indonesia yesterday shattered the stereotype, as dozens of models sashayed down the catwalk in outfits that complied with Muslim tradition but also oozed funk and flounce.

Muslim fashion to parties

Muslim fashion to partiesWell, there you have it: it's women's fault they get raped. If you look at the model to the right you will have to conclude this pretty well should turn anyone off. But being turned on is not what motivates rapists. As we all now know, Rape is a crime of violence - not passion. Of power and anger - not sexual attraction. I have been sexually attracted to hundreds of women throughout my life, not one of whom had to be forced through physical violence to have sex with me.

New Hijab girls

New Hijab girlsAlthough there is an increase in Hijabi girls, there is also an increase in these hijabi girls wearing the tightest clothes possible to show off their ‘assets’. That is the only way I can word it. Tight jeans are worn so that the view from behind is clear for everyone to see. Tight skirts are worn with short tops, again, so that everything is on display. The only thing that is hidden is the hair with a short scarf which is often accompanied with full make-up.

Muslim Fashion Women

Muslim Fashion Women They have, indeed, spoilt it for those of us who are taking it seriously. And all this in a so-called Muslim land. I think there is a lot of identity confusion among the youth, they want to cover their hair to obey God’s commands but they also want to be available on the ’attractive market’ so they can find a suitable boyfriend or husband-to-be.

New design on ancient dress

New design Islamic dress

For Muslim women, it is a major struggle to find clothing in department stores that conforms to their religion - loose-fitting and concealing their body shape.
The traditional Islamic dress, the abaya, is not popular with young, hijab-wearing Muslims because of its heavy beading, dull colours and uncomfortable fabric.

Cloak worn by Muslim women

The assignment for Virginia Commonwealth University fashion students: design an abaya, an enveloping cloak worn by Muslim women, that is stylish yet acceptable in Arab countries. The results: elaborately beaded designs, a flamenco-influenced abaya, a punk rock abaya — and perhaps a better understanding of cultural norms in the Persian Gulf nation of Qatar, where the university has had a campus for 10 years.

Muslim women of Malagasy

There are no hard and fast rules to which women wear traditional lamba and which wear Western clothing. Many women wear a lamba one day and not the next or just for part of the day. Younger more fashion conscious women may wear lambas around the house and just for special occasions but not to go into town. On the contrary, other women wear western clothing at home and put the lamba on to go into town.
